At 15, Sara Adams from the Cape Flats is climbing toward her dreams in every literal sense. The speed-slaying climber has been selected for the World Youth Championships, but needs a leg-up to get there!

Cape Town (08 June, 2023) — Scaling up walls at full speed might seem like something reserved for spy movies. But, as speed climbing continues to grow in popularity as a sport, the mission has become less CGI and a lot more CG-I-wish-I-could-do-that; at least that’s what we think when watching the likes of speed climber Sara Adams.

Adams is only 15 years old and she’s already making a big name for herself in the climbing world. So much so in fact, that she’s won numerous climbing competitions, has basked in gold accolades and has been selected to shine at the IFSC Youth World Championship in Seoul later this year.

Adams has been climbing since she was just 10 years old. In her teen years, she already acknowledges the sport’s influence on herself.

“Climbing has made me a stronger individual both mentally and physically,” she shared per Mogamat Shamier Magmoet whose helping spread the word on the climbing speedster.

However, Adams’ journey to an international speed showdown is bittersweet. On the one hand, it’s incredible to be selected for a championship of this magnitude. On the other, financing the journey is a climb all of its own, as SANCF (South African National Climbing Federation) reportedly does not have funds to support the athletes.

So, Adams has a crowdfunding campaign going to give her the best shot at representing South Africa and climbing to the competition she deserves to be at.

Just under R23 000 of the R63 000 goal has been raised already as community members and strangers continue to do what they can for the girl whose future could be very bright.

The sponsorship or donations will go to her flights, accommodation, team management costs, visa and travel insurance as well as food and beverages.

To read more about her and give her a leg-up, venture here!
