A truck driver from Cape Town is being hailed as a hero for stopping a drunk driver and warning other motorists of danger in the process.
Cape Town, South Africa (24 October 2016) – News24 reported that the Cape Town truck driver will be honoured for bravery after he tried to stop the drunk driver of a Jaguar – as well as warn other motorists about the danger, the City said on Sunday.
The City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, released a statement that last Thursday, just after 11 pm, traffic officials received a report that a white Jaguar was driving into oncoming traffic on the N1 near Monte Vista.
CCTV footage then picked up that it was being followed by a white truck.
“First impressions were that both vehicles were driving negligently,” said Smith.
“However further examination revealed that the truck driver was attempting to stop the Jaguar, as well as warn oncoming traffic of the hazard by flashing his lights.”
The Trucker, Zain Small, was following the Jaguar driver to try to prevent him from causing harm and warn all other motorists.
The Jaguar driver was eventually arrested at the Koeberg interchange, the trucker, Small, will receive a commendation from the City for his bravery at a special ceremony which will be held on Monday.
The driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless and negligent driving and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
