An elderly man inspired the Fisantekraal Animal Welfare team with his dedication to getting his kitty, Kietsie, all his shots even though they lived far.

It is no secret that South Africa has extreme poverty which is why many organisations work to close the gap by offering helpful services that create an inclusive environment for all.

Animal rescue organisations don’t only rescue and rehome animals. They also offer services that help pet owners get the medical care needed for their beloved pets. These services are really helpful, they ensure that animals are vaccinated, spayed and overall in good condition.

The only downside is that these organisations can sometimes be a bit far for the people who need them most. What we have noticed in South Africa is that the pet parents that truly want to make sure their animals are ok, go out of their way to get them to these important clinic days.

In September this year, a man went viral for taking his dogs to the SPCA in a wheelbarrow. It was his only option and it started a conversation about the love that people from disadvantaged communities have for their animals. Now a man has made sure his kitty got the treatment despite not having a carrier box.

Fisantekraal Animal Welfare (FAW) shared a post about an elderly man that loved his cat so much, he wrapped him snuggly in a bag and carried him all the way to FAW to make sure the cat got the care it needed.

“Now we know who let the cat out of the bag!

How to bring your kitty in for a check-up when you don’t have a carrier but you want to keep him safe and sound.

This gentleman lives quite far from our clinic and he doesn’t have much but he’s making sure Kietsie gets his shots and is a healthy cat.”

People have been inspired by his dedication to his Kietsie and have even offered to buy him a cat carrier.

How ingenious of him. Wish there were more like him. Bless you for caring about your kitty” – Priscilla Dazel Edmondson

BLESS him and his precious kitty…” – Josephine Botes Saayman

Ah mother so cute! I wish I could do that with my girls – the bag would be shredded in a nanosecond!” – Caro Swarts

We are big animal fans but so happy to finally share a good news story about cats. Cats hardly feature here so this one really warmed our hearts.
