The Platter Project has released a series of festive baubles and the funds raised from the sales are already being donated to conservation causes.

South Africa (28 October 2022) – Festive baubles are being sold and the money raised is going towards conservation efforts in South Africa and supporting organisations working on organ donation awareness. This passion project is run by the Wilkinson family.

Di Wilkinson was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease in 2013 and immediately required dialysis three times a week for five hours at a time. She required a life-saving kidney transplant. Unfortunately, none of her family members are compatible and with less than 1% of the South African population registered as organ donors, her future is rather uncertain.

Refusing to give up on life and motivated by her passion for wildlife, Wilkinson started painting beautiful, large platters with different wild animals on them.

Her children, unbeknown to her posted one of her platters on a social media platform, which received an overwhelmingly positive response and so #ThePlatterProject was born…

#ThePlatterProject aims to create awareness around wildlife conservation and organ donation through the personal journey of the Wilkinson family.

By raising funds through the ‘sale’ of their platters, the kids hope to support organisations associated with organ donation and wildlife conservation.

This year, Di chose to do something a little different. She started making Christmas baubles. She made four collections highlighting birds, the Big 5, rhinos and a mix of all three.

As always the family started collecting the funds and has already raised R20,000. They made the first donation to the value of R10,000 towards the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF).  The funds are being used to pay ranger salaries and field equipment of the Akashinga Female Rangers, who risk their lives, daily, to combat poaching in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Another donation from the baubles has been to make a few festive packs for children at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. Each child will also be gifted their own bauble.

“Often we just donate the funds over but yesterday my mom and I decided to use (a very small portion) of the funds to put together Christmas presents for the 11 young children (aged 7-13 years old) currently battling organ failure, at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital” – The Platter Project

All funds are donated to either an official organisation associated with organ donation or wildlife conservation. Visit their website, and Instagram to see more.
