Northlands Ferals have put out a plea for volunteers to help feed and care for two feral cat colonies and to make friends with the tame cats.

Northriding, South Africa (05 April 2022) – Feral cat colonies can be found across the South African provinces, and there are teams in each province that work tirelessly to care for and protect them. The Northlands Ferals team works in Northriding, Johannesburg, and they need a few cat lovers to join their cause.

Cat colonies will often live around businesses and industrial parks where they can access shelter and escape areas as needed.

The Northlands Ferals team care for a cat colony near a Pick n Pay and is looking to add to their team of feral feeders. They keep the colony managed by trapping and spaying any newcomers; this helps keep numbers manageable and ensures there are no unwanted kittens.

“We need some kind hearted, committed feral feeders to help us care for some of our Ferals.

We are looking for feeders to help with either of the following:

– A small colony near Northlands PnP. They need help once or twice a week.
– To visit a feral who has turned friendly every second day to give him some attention. He is close to Bloubosrand. All you need to do is take a treat and yourself and enjoy lots of cuddles (BUT you must be able to go between 07h00 and 15h00 as we have to access via a business).

While life is hard for these cats, we do our best to make sure they are healthy and get daily fresh dry food and clean water (and some treats).

Can you help? It only takes a small amount of time from your day, but their lives literally depend on it, and it’s very satisfying to know their tummies are full, they are safe and warm.

Please get in touch if you would like to get involved and we can chat through all the details and arrange for you to see what we do.” – Northlands Ferals

Not only does the team feed and care for the ferals, when it is needed, but they also rescue cats from the colonies and rehome them. They currently have a beautiful boy called Blue who has slowly become friendly and is at a location where he is not getting much attention. They hope to tame him further and find him a loving home.
