The Giving Them Wings Foundation is raising funds to install water tanks at Eastern Cape schools to help them grow food in the school garden.

Eastern Cape, South Africa (28 September 2021) – The Giving Them Wings Foundation was founded by Solitaire in 2014 with the hope of uplifting schools in the Eastern Cape. They adopt schools, build food gardens and start recycling programmes.

The adopted schools in the Eastern Cape need water tanks for their food gardens. The water tanks will mean the gardens don’t need municipal water, thus saving the schools money.

They launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy to raise the money to install water tanks at the schools in their programme. Aside from providing a sustainable source of food for the school kitchen, the gardens serve as a great form of education for the children at the school.

The children are taught to grow their own food, build healthy soil, and even more complex gardening skills such as propagation.

Organisations like the Giving Them Wings Foundation are helping instil valuable skills in the youth of today. While it is important to learn to read, write and do maths, it is equally as important to know the basics of growing your own food and being somewhat sustainable.

If you would like to support their cause, you can donate here.
