Chefs With Compassion is cooking up a big pot. A pool? A whole lot of goodness in soup form for Mandela Day. The 67 000 Litres challenge is on again!
South Africa (30 June, 2023) — Chefs with Compassion is back at it again and ready to cook up all the goodness for Mandela Day on 18 July. The 67 000 litres challenge is happening again this year, serving up the same message the Chefs have committed to year-on-year: We can all serve our portion of change!
This is the fourth year that Chefs with Compassion is undertaking the big soup mission; tackling hunger in South Africa and spotlighting the massive problem of food wastage in the same breath.
Each year, more litres than expected have been cooked and served to communities in need on Nelson Mandela Day thanks to volunteers and the Chefs. 77 455 Litres were served in 2020, 70 870 litres in 2021 and a whopping 90 679 litres in 2022, feeding 362 716 people that year.
The goal is as enormous as it is possible, and here’s how you can serve your portion:
- Participate from your own kitchen and challenge yourself to cook 10 litres of soup in 67 minutes or more. You can even choose the beneficiary you serve!
- Or, the ‘Back a Kitchen’ option where your corporate team of up to 10 people get to cook alongside the chefs.
Who Are Chefs with Compassion?
Chefs with Compassion is a collaboration of people who want to see South Africa better off through more food security. Launched at a critical time during the 2020 stretch of the pandemic, Chefs with Compassion has fed over 5 million people since its inception.
Beyond its network of community cooks, the team also rescues wasted food, making sure meals go where they’re most needed—hungry tummies.
