The TEARS mobile animal clinic van was stolen from a shopping centre parking lot. The animal care manager posted a plea online, hours later it was found!
The TEARS Animal Rescue mobile clinic plays an important role in the communities it services. It is an option for people who need care for their animals or strays but can’t get to the centre. It goes into communities where there is struggle and desperate need.
Yesterday, the 3rd of May, an urgent appeal was posted onto Facebook for help to find the van as it had just been stolen from a shopping centre parking lot. The request was if anyone had seen it or had known anything to please assist as soon as possible!
Within a few hours the van had been spotted. “An alert and active volunteer Neighbourhood Watch patroller from Fish Hoek spotted the vehicle on the way to Strand. They immediately got hold of the Constantia Valley Information Centre (CVIC – community based radio/LPR) who relayed the information to Flying Squad who then successfully took down the vehicle and arrested two suspects.”
“Another example of brilliant team work from all role players. A HUGE paws up to the aware NHW patroller, SAPS, CVIC and all people involved in this success! Thanks to you our Mobile Van will be back on the road again tomorrow, helping animals who need it most.”- Luke Kruyt, Animal Care Manager at TEARS Animal Rescue.
