A home of hope for young girls who’ve faced lives on the street recently celebrated a twinkling dream come true by being able to attend their matric dance in full, elegant force thanks to community kindness.

Cape Town, South Africa (08 September 2023) — Cape Town’s beacon of hope and home for young girls living on the street— Ons Plek —recently celebrated community kindness that made a milestone moment possible for three of their matrics.

The shelter for girls who’ve previously faced lives on the street or were very close to lives heading in that tough direction provides more than a place to stay. Ons Plek is determined to give their girls as much support as possible, including a little dream fare.

For many, attending your matric dance isn’t even something that needs to be considered. Beyond a little budgeting, it’s more of a calendar highlight than a big question mark of possibility.

However, stepping outside of these privileged shoes is a world where making an entrance means a lot more. Thanks to community kindness, the three matric students at Ons Plek got to have their own main-character moments!

The young ladies were able to secure tickets, dresses, shoes, hair and makeup and one local even paid for a student’s entire outfit. Further still, locals organised cars, snacks, cake and even did the girls’ hair and make-up for them.

The Ons Plek girls decorated the house gorgeously for the send-off as the girls embraced the love and support not just from the Ons Plek family, but from others near and far who want to see them continue to shine against the odds.
