Eastern Cape, South Africa (05 November 2020) – On Saturday afternoon on the 24th of October, there was a horrific accident outside Mthatha in a rural area called Misty Mount. A man named Dylan and his dog Blaze were involved in a terrible car crash.

Miraculously Dylan was able to phone his sister Angela and ask her to send an ambulance. Angela could not find anyone to take her call – to send an ambulance out to the accident scene. She stumbled upon a Private Ambulance Service in East London who told her to get in contact with a man named Dave who owns a company called Gardmed that operates in the Eastern Cape and has a branch in Mthatha.

An ambulance was immediately despatched from Mthatha and within 20 minutes arrived at the scene.

Dylan’s injuries were critical, and he had to be extricated from his vehicle, stabilized and rushed to the hospital. Upon arriving back into Mthatha, Life Hospital was full, so the Paramedics decided that rather than wait, they were going to transfer him to Mthatha Private, due to the seriousness of his injuries.

“After Dylan had been rushed into emergency surgery, his sister contacted Dave from Gardmed to ask if the Paramedics had seen or found a dog at the scene. Blaze, Dylan’s dog, travels with him everywhere he goes and was in the car at the time of the accident. Dave got in contact with his staff, and they confirmed that they had not seen a dog at the accident scene. Knowing the importance that Blaze has to Dylan and how a beloved pet can aid a patients recovery, Siphilele and Dave decide that he had to go back out to the accident scene and search for the dog that night.”

Dave transferred R1500 of his own money to Siphilele and said that he should offer a reward to find him. Siphilele proceeded to spend many hours driving the rural area visiting villages and searching for Blaze, leaving behind his cell number and the offer of a reward.

The Next morning a miracle truly happened!

Siphilele was contacted by someone claiming to have the dog; an ambulance was sent out to verify if it was, in fact, Dylan’ pup. Photos were quickly exchanged between Siphilele, Dave and Angela.

It was Blaze!

When Dylan awoke from his operation the next day and asked about Blaze, his sister was able to smile at him and say that his beloved companion was safe and sound, all due to the motto that Dave and his staff live by… if you can go to bed at night knowing you have made a difference in one person’s life, it has been a good day.

“In an industry where these hardworking people see so much carnage on South African Roads, every now and then a heartwarming story like this shows that with a bit of effort and compassion miracles can come true.”

Dylan is currently recovering in hospital in Durban, where he was transferred to see a specialist surgeon. Doctor Chetty has said that he wouldn’t have survived the accident and it is a miracle that he is still here.

Dylan has subsequently spoken to Blaze on the phone, much to the nurses’ amusement and cant wait to see his best friend again.
