Cassidy Nicholson, AKA ‘Constantia Mom’ recently stood up for South Africa and defended the country against locals who badmouth SA while exploring other parts of the world.

Global (17 August, 2023)—Content creator and influencer Cassidy Nicholson, AKA ‘Constantia Mom’ recently shared her perspective on locals who jet off on holiday overseas but bring down South Africa whilst on their adventures.

As she began unpacking her perspective, she shared that there’s nothing she cannot stand less than SA citizens who ruin their holiday for everyone else because they badmouth home.

“I’m lucky enough that I have travelled, and so because of that I know the grass isn’t aways greener everywhere else, but there’s just this sense of loyalty and you know, to be patriotic…I know that South Africa’s got our shit. I know! But it’s OUR shit,” she shared.

Likening badmouthing SA when experiencing another part of the world to bullying a sibling (SA being the sibling) she added:

“I really don’t think we’re going to gain anything by badmouthing the place that we call home.”

Cassidy’s perspective rang true for many of her fellow South Africans. Some highlighted that we should showcase our pride more so that other countries will want to experience our home, while others emphased how the naysayers won’t shake their local love.

Because You Can Live Your Best Life Without Dragging Your Home Flag Down

Travelling when you can is important. Exploring the world and touching base with other cultures and people is a privelege! But, as Mark Sham shared last month in an open letter to those considering becoming expats, “There are no solutions [when moving] There are only trade-offs.”

And, as Cassidy’s audience implies, there are far more solutions when we look for ways to uplift SA after seeing and experincing more, as opposed to dragging home down.
