73-year-old Gideon who works for the Critter Rescue South Africa team, lost most of his possessions to a house fire; thankfully, the community is rallying to help him.
Gauteng, South Africa (25 April 2024) – Critter Rescue South Africa were devastated to learn that their worker Gideon had lost almost everything to a house fire. The 73-year-old man is the main breadwinner for his family and the loss has deeply affected him. The Critter team wanted to lend a helping hand and turned to their regular supporters for help.
Usually, Critter Rescue SA focusses on rabbits, rodents and other small mammals but this time, they’re turned towards supporting a human cause, and a very good human in need.
Gideon and his wife, along with their orphaned grandson, have lived in their home in Alexandra for many years. They had filled it with items hard-earned and deeply cherished. The loss was a great shock to the entire family.
Hoping to help make recovering what was lost easier, Critter Rescue SA put together a list of items needed to help Gideon and his family get back on their feet.
“If you have any of the following items that you no longer need and can donate to him we will be very grateful”
- Small stove
- Gas cylinder
- Steel door (for the house as their door bend with the fire and now can’t lock)
- Kettle
- Kitchen utensils
- Plates and cups
- Roof sheeting (his kitchen area is currently open due to the fire)
- Blankets
- Curtains
- Small fridge
- Anything else you can think of that you don’t need anymore
