The Cradle of Hope has launched a crowdfund to help provide resources to women escaping abuse whether it be physical or emotional – this is how to help.

Krugersdrop, South Africa (23 August 2021) – The Cradle of Hope welcomes many people through its doors but they have seen a rise in women fleeing abuse at home. They have launched a crowdfund to help support these women.

“Emotional abuse is often overshadowed by physical violence. Many psychologists, counsellors and activists warn that the impact of emotional violence, in the long run, does far more harm than physical violence.
During the past couple of months, we have been flooded with pleas for assistance, from ladies with their children fleeing from abusive partners and husbands, mothers and their babies who have been living on the streets, at our ONE DAY EMERGENCY OVERNIGHT SHELTER (ODES).

We are in desperate need of toiletries and clothing (all sizes) for ladies and children and babies, of all sizes.
PLEASE help us if you can. Donations can be dropped off at our HOUSE OF RESTORATION at 106 Stegmann street, West Krugersdorp.”

The Cradle of Hope has been working tirelessly to support the community and launched its “one-day emergency shelter” that can house 30 women and their children. The emergency shelter includes a warm bed, hot shower, toiletries and a warm meal.

The organisation has shared that since the start of the lockdown, the emergency shelter has been at capacity most nights. The women who arrive there are often sent via the SAPS.

“Our HOUSE OF RESTORATION in West-Krugersdorp is a safe haven and a place of empowerment for destitute, vulnerable and abused women and their children which offers temporary, medium-term accommodation and other benefits like life skills training. We accommodate mothers together with their children, thus keeping the family unit intact.

Our objective is to provide our in-house beneficiaries with safe housing, healthy nutrition, assistance to obtain medical services, education, skills training, job creation, creative recreation, as well as emotional and spiritual development on a sustainable basis. To address the needs in the community by providing daily meals and monthly food parcels to those in need.”

Their hope is to raise enough funds to equip the two shelter programmes with the required resources to uplift and empower women escaping abuse. If you would like to support the cause, you can do so via Backabuddy here or contact Sharon on WhatsApp or email on +2779 049 5802 or info@thecradleofhope.org.
