Brian De Beer had a lovely experience while driving to Cape Town when a petrol attendant gave him the best customer service he had ever had while refilling!
Malmesbury, Western Cape – Brian De Beer was on his way to Cape Town when he stopped at a garage to fill up. He was greeted by Bongani, the man who would be putting in his petrol for him.
Brian was surprised by how friendly Bongani was and how thoughtful and helpful he was. His overall experience was one he had never had before and he just had to praise Bongani for his brilliant customer service. He shared a picture of Bongani on Facebook and wrote about his experience. The post has been shared thousands of times and inspired so many people to share their own customer service stories.
“I stopped at Engen, Malmesbury yesterday at 4.45pm on my way to CPT. Bongani shook my hand when I stopped the car, looked me in the eyes, asked me how I was doing today. After that he brought the bin over and said “please sir, if you have any trash in the car, give it to me”.
“I thought to myself, wow! Then, he said, “there are some refreshments and snacks over there in the store for you to enjoy.” I replied saying thank you I will definitely get some. Obviously, he asked about oil, tire pressure and all that and ofcourse he washed the windows.
“When I returned, on my way to leave after paying for the fill-up, he said: “please sir, don’t drive too fast”.
Wow, wow, wow! What an inspiration. A simple encounter like this makes me smile every time I think about it.“After asking him when can I or someone else can come visit him, he said he will be there Friday night and Sunday afternoon. I told him this photo was his promotion for Facebook.
“How will you change someone’s day today?”
Thousands of people shared their joy at reading this message. They said it gives them so much hope for South Africa. Have you ever received exceptional customer service?

“I did a road trip a few years ago and had the same sort of service in most areas except for major centres. It is a two-way operation you show respect for the job they are doing and they will give you good service. Don’t just say fill up whatever your fuel is and leave it at that. Your attitude gets you the service you want” – David Taylor
“Bongani is a living example of Service Excellence and what our domestic and international tourists /visitors alike are always looking forward to as lifetime memories…. keep it up young man….. thank you Brian De Beer for sharing such a positive and heartwarming experience” – Mabandla Kelengeshe
