Annah Mufamadi, a graduate in Logistics Management, defied unemployment odds in South Africa and landed her dream job. Her story serves as an inspiration for others facing similar challenges.
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 June 2023) – In the challenging job market of South Africa, it’s not always easy for graduates to find employment in their chosen fields. However, Annah Mufamadi, a determined young woman, managed to secure her dream job at a company she is honoured to work for.
Her story is not just about her personal achievement, but also sheds light on the issue of unemployment in our country.
Annah’s journey with Michelin began after she completed her diploma in Logistics Management at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in 2018. Seeking further knowledge and growth, she decided to pursue an advanced diploma in Supply Chain. It was during this time that she first encountered Michelin through Patricia Mathuloe, an HR business partner at the company. Patricia approached Annah at university and conducted an interview that would change her life.
Still uncertain about why she was chosen for the surprise interview, Annah humbly acknowledges that she was among the top performers in the Supply Chain Management course at TUT. She realized that the supply chain industry, which plays a significant role in Africa’s economy, has traditionally been male-dominated and hindered by outdated approaches. Annah made a conscious decision to contribute to the growth of this sector as a female leader.
Impressed by the company’s reputation and values, Annah decided that it was the ideal company to pursue her career aspirations. After completing her advanced diploma, she wasted no time in sending her CV to them.
“Another surprise for me was being told that the interview would take place on the same day that I had sent my CV. I couldn’t believe how things were just falling into place for me, and at that point, I started to think that I was meant to work for the company, and I was right”, Annah quips.
It seemed as though fate was guiding her towards this career and company. A week later, she was offered an internship position at Michelin Tyre Company South Africa, which eventually led to a permanent role as a Supply Chain Planner for the B2B division—the very position she had dreamed of.
When asked about her success and the advice she would give to fellow graduates, Annah emphasized the importance of hard work. While some may attribute her accomplishments to luck, she firmly believes that her dedication and perseverance played a significant role. Annah encourages young people to put in the effort, whether at university or in any other environment, as hard work is always recognized and rewarded by esteemed companies like Michelin.
“Young people need to work hard at university – or any place they find themselves in, as hard work is always recognised and rewarded by top companies.”
Furthermore, Annah stresses the value of bravery and active participation in work projects once graduates enter the professional world. Seeking feedback from managers and maintaining a “can-do” attitude are vital ingredients for building a successful career. By following these principles, young individuals can bring themselves closer to realizing their dreams.
Annah Mufamadi’s story highlights the struggles faced by graduates in South Africa’s job market, but it also serves as a beacon of hope. With determination, hard work, and the right opportunities, it’s possible to overcome the challenges and secure a dream job.
