Former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Tebow celebrated her 28th birthday recently along with a special gift— raising R4 million for vulnerable babies, children and families.
Global (29 June, 2023) — Former Miss South Africa Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Tebow posed a special request for her 28th birthday this year. In light of her 28th trip around the sun (which she celebrated yesterday), she asked the community of millions that she’s built up over the years to donate 28 dollars toward the best gift—bettering the lives of others.
Teaming up with her husband football star Tim Tebow, Demi-Leigh’s big birthday idea envisioned tons of impact for an organisation that encapsulates that same philosophy—Impact Africa. Together with the Tim Tebow Foundation, Impact Africa is working to give abandoned babies in South Africa a loving chance.
Demi-Leigh’s 28th birthday campaign is entirely geared toward the cause, with hopes to build a safe-space campus that’ll provide life-giving support for these little ones and their families, alongside several ribbons including:
- A ‘baby safe’ to provide life-saving alternatives for parents unable to provide for their children as opposed to abandoning them.
- A counselling centre for mothers and families who may feel they can no longer, or won’t be able to take care of their child.
- A school aimed at providing hope and education for children and families.
The foundation has uplifted vulnerable all over the world through various programmes from adoption aid grant for children with special needs to orphan care and medical care. Given Demi-Leigh’s love for South Africa, SA has a natural place on their radar of impact which led to them building their first children’s home in Johannesburg a few years back.
Thanks to the Demi-Leigh Tebow birthday campaign, over R4 million has already been raised for the new campus that will also set down its roots in Johannesburg!
“One of the biggest honors of my life will forever be having had the opportunity to represent my home country, South Africa on an international stage. I love South Africa so much – our cultures, 11 official languages, our food, our sense of humor, the natural beauty and one of my favorites, the hospitality and warm welcomes. However, something in particular really breaks my heart for South Africa.
“Living in South Africa, I have firsthand witnessed how many families experience poverty, and in many cases, the inability to provide basic necessities. This leads to children and families often becoming vulnerable to things like malnourishment, abuse, neglect, abandonment, and even trafficking. There are many people in my home country who are in need of support. My hope for South Africa is that the support that is needed happens as soon as possible. And for so many families, a safe place can be life-changing.”—Demi-Leigh Tebow.
Meanwhile, another special birthday gift worthy of celebration saw grassroots giving back in full swing, as Charity Begins With Me’s Founder collected hundreds of veggies for children and their families through massive party packs.
