Dexter wandered from home and took his adventure a little too far, ending up in a drain; thankfully, his mom found him, and the local security team could rescue him.

Constantia, South Africa (05 April 2023) – The team from Constantia Watch answered a call to help a woman rescue her cat, Dexter, from a nearby drain. Constantia Watch shared the thank you letter for Dexter’s rescue.

The team works in the Constantia area and while their main focus is safety, they do take part in community service efforts too.

They are animal lovers themselves, with two beautiful Belgian Malinois dogs, KC and Seeff, on the team. Dwayne, who helped rescue Dexter, is part of the K9 unit, which helps with tracking of bad guys.

“On Sunday, 2 April, our beautiful cat, Dexter, went missing. The day turned to night and still we could not find him anywhere. I eventually got desperate and decided to roam the streets calling for him, and thank goodness I did. I heard a distant meow and thought it was my mind playing tricks on me, but then I heard it again and I started to gain hope that I would find our boy.

Eventually, I followed the meow enough times and came across Dexter trapped in a gutter about 200 metres from our house. My husband and I tried everything to get him to the hole that led him there in the first place but he was unfortunately trapped and couldn’t find his way out. Fortunately, he had shelter in there and it was a warm night, and so exhausted and feeling very helpless at 10pm, we went to bed.

First thing the next morning, I went back and he was still there… It was extremely early but I decided to call Constantia Watch to see if this was something they could help with (knowing very well this was not in their list of normal services!) – I just had no idea who else to call!

They gladly sent the Constantia Watch SRT around immediately, a lovely man by the name of Dwayne. Dwayne managed to lift the exceptionally heavy drain (which my husband and I weren’t able to do the night before, convinced it was cemented down), and shifted it to the side of the road.

Our gorgeous Dexter was then coaxed out with Dwayne’s K9 dog treats and we finally managed to get a good enough grip on him and lift him out of the hole.

The aim of sharing this story is just to say a massive thank you to the Constantia Watch team, who went out of their way to help a member save their beloved cat. It is so appreciated! Your efficiency, professionalism and service to the community does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. THANK YOU!”

The Constantia Watch came to the rescue and Dexter’s mom was so happy to finally be reunited with her boy.
