A little Yorkie dog was found very, very far from home and kept safe by a car guard before his owner was notified, now she is desperate to get him home again.

Cape Town, South Africa – A Yorkshire Terrier was spotted with a car guard on the city streets of Cape Town, and it piqued the interest of a few people. The man was approached by Rene Steller and questioned about the dog. The dog didn’t look like it had been living on the streets.

The Rene snapped a picture of the dog, and the hunt started to find his owner. Carole Ann Sherratt from the Facebook page Atlantic Seaboard Pet Lovers said she would drive around the Sea Point area where the man was last seen and try to get the dog.

The car guard, Nathan, had been standing next to a car where two people were sleeping. While they were sleeping the dog jumped from the vehicle. They woke in a panic and sped off. The car guard grabbed Rolo and kept him safe, refusing to hand him over to anyone as he was waiting for the car to return. It never did!

Carole was trying to convince Nathan to give her the dog when they saw the man who had it in his car. The dog was eventually handed over and taken to a nearby vet to check if it had a chip…

Meanwhile, 1300km away the Conradie family were frantically looking for their dog that had been stolen over the weekend. They were desperate to find their beloved Rolo and sent out missing posters and posted on every Facebook page they could find.

Back in Cape Town, the dog had arrived at the vet and was busy being scanned for a chip. The dog had a chip, and the information for his family was made available. They immediately called the owner to notify them their dog had been found.

Jean-Marie Conradie’s phone rang, it was a number from Cape Town. She answered the call and got the best, and most shocking news. Her precious Rolo had been found 1300km away from home.

Thankfully, there was a family member in Helderberg that could fetch Rolo and keep him safe. Once he was picked up and safely with family, he was given a bath and a comfy bed to rest. Rolo was exhausted after his very long and probably terrifying ordeal.

Now the family are trying to figure out how to get Rolo back home to the Freestate, Vaal area. Jean-Marie is so thankful Rolo was found and has stressed the importance of having pets chipped. Without the chip, Rolo may never have been reconnected with her.

Jean-Marie is hoping someone will be able to assist them in getting Rolo back home safely. If anyone can help her, they can email her directly here.

Update: Since posting, we have been updated that Rolo has secured a trip to Bloemfontein where he will stay with another family member of the Conradie’s and wait for them to make the 4-hour drive to collect him.

We will keep you updated on Rolo’s journey home.
