Simon the Terrier was chasing a Dassie in Simon’s Town when he chased it down a crevice and got wedged 3-metres below a giant boulder.
Simon’s Town, Western Cape – Dogs sometimes get up to some incredible mischief; this was the case for Simon, a little terrier from Fishhoek.
Simon found himself in a little bit of a tight spot while out on a walk. He had seen a Dassie and chased after it, following it into the crevice of a massive rock. A woman from Simon’s Town immediately called the Cape Medical Response team for assistance.
The Cape Medical Response team rushed to the site where Simon was trapped and started working at getting free. They needed some assistance and called in reinforcements. Simon was wedged about 3-metres underneath a giant boulder, making his rescue rather more challenging than anticipated.
“Upon arrival, the dog, Simon, was found about 3-metres deep under a very large boulder. He had been chasing a dassie when he wiggled himself into the crevice and was not able to free himself.
Darren Zimmerman of Cape Medical Response requested assistance from NSRI Station 10 Simon’s Town, Simon’s Town Fire & Rescue, TEARS Animal Rescue and Cape of Good Hope SPCA.”
Together the organisations were able to come up with a way to pull Simon up and out of the deep crevice he was in.
“Simon was able to be hooked by his collar to bring him closer to the responders using a ceiling hook from the fire department and a dog catching device from the SPCA. They managed to maneuver Simon out of his entrapment.
Simon was trapped for about an hour and only suffered a bit of a fright and dirty paws from the experience. After a rinse, he was his usual self again.”
Eventually, Simon was back on solid ground and reunited with his owner.
