In Springfield Park, staff at the Durban SPCA spent days locked in with their animals while the protests and looting took place; thankfully, they got through it without any harm done.
Durban, South Africa (20 July 2021) – The Durban SPCA was caught in the middle of all the looting and protesting last week. The general public has been elated to learn that the staff locked themselves in with the animals and prepared themselves to protect the animals.
Thankfully, the looters and protesters didn’t bother the animals and kept their sights on what they believed to be more lucrative pursuits.
While the Durban SPCA is relieved they were left alone during the chaos; they will not be able to proceed with business as usual.
The animals require food, and with the shops in the state that they are, animal food may be scarce. They took to their Facebook page late last week asking for support for their cats and dogs. They are especially concerned as they expect to receive an influx of animals that had been injured or fled their homes during the violent protests.
“Our dogs and cats need food, and that could soon be in very short supply. Plus – as soon as we reopen, we’re going to be flooded with hundreds more dogs and cats surrendered by owners who can no longer afford to keep them.”
If you would like to support them, you can donate via their website here. They officially reopened their doors yesterday, so you can pop in to drop off your donations and pop into their charity shop as well.
