Kind-hearted employees recently teamed up to do something unexpected with their overtime pay! Instead of cashing in their extra hours for themselves, they pooled their extra hours’ earnings for a non-profit to help vulnerable people and babies.
Johannesburg, South Africa (28 July, 2023) — It’s not every day that overtime pay lands up in the hands of the vulnerable, but that’s exactly what happened thanks to selfless employees. Deciding to put their hard-earned extra hours to impactful use, this payroll department made a big difference for a non-profit!
Together, employees working in the payroll department at Sun International decided to pool two months of overtime for the Pretoria-based non-profit House of Hope.
House of Hope based in Danville takes care of and provides shelter to vulnerable people including little ones. The House takes care of around 300 people by feeding them daily. In 2019, they opened a house specifically for babies and toddlers who had been neglected, abused or abandoned.
Before the overtime donation, the kind-hearted employees had already begun doing what they could to help House of Hope out.
“We had already collected clothing for the organisation, but felt they could use the money, especially for milk and nappies for the babies,” shared Payroll Manager Constant Laubscher.
Of the donation, extra nappies, food and clothing shared thanks to the team effort, House of Hope couldn’t have been more surprised or grateful.
“We were taken completely by surprise. We are always looking for people to help and support us so this donation will help to plug a few holes. We are so grateful.”—House of Hope founder Lizelle Marucchi.
Meanwhile in other employees teaming up to do awesome things news, kindness walked in unexpectedly for the team at I Love Coffee, resulting in a massive ‘tip’ of R10 000 for the shop that employs deaf baristas!
