ER24 responded to the scene of an injured young girl, in the process of assisting her they cut her uniform! To make it up to her, they went and bought her a new one!
The paramedics of ER24 are specially trained to save the lives of the people they meet. Time and time again these hero’s do exactly that. Sometimes they do more than just save lives though, sometimes they change them!
A team of ER24 paramedics responded to a report of an 11 year old girl who had been knocked down by a car while on her way to school.
“Her leg was broken and paramedics had to cut through her school uniform. This action was necessary to fully assess her injuries.”
“Although the little girl’s mom was devastated seeing her daughter injured, she was also very upset that the girl’s school shirt was cut open as they have no money and that was the only uniform she had.”
Tannith Mottershaw, an Advanced Life Support (ALS) medic from the ER24 Johannesburg North branch and her partner Lliam Richmond approached they young girls mother to apologise for cutting the uniform.
“The mother broke down and said that she cannot afford a new school uniform. I told her that we will sort out the uniform and all the rest,” – Tannith Mottershaw
Tannith rallied other paramedics and together they raised R2,000.00 which they used to buy an all new uniform. Tannith and a few other paramedics visited they young girl on Monday, they took the new uniform and other goodies to surprise her.
“We all got goosebumps as we gave her the goodies. The first thing she picked up was the new school shirt. She was so happy about it and immediately hugged it close to her body,”
“When we arrived there we realised the mother was taking care of eight children. We decided that we will be buying the family groceries every month for the rest of the year,”
This gesture of kindness has changed the lives of 8 young children and one hard working mother! The ER24 branch manager said he couldn’t be prouder of his team for going above and beyond their call of duty!
