Erin Langenhoven, a young and talented swimmer, showed incredible kindness by donating part of her funds raised for an upcoming swimming event to help a dog in need. Despite her own challenges, including caring for her sick mother, Erin remarkably inspires others with her selfless acts.
Melkbosstrand, South Africa (17 December 2024) – It’s always food for the soul when we hear about young people making a difference in their communities. Whether it be through touching little and big lives or of those on four legs (or less) – it gives hope to so many who find themselves in far-from-ideal circumstances.
The WOW Project was moved when one of its youngest supporters selflessly gave some of the money she raised for an upcoming swimming event to the animal outreach organisation.
Erin Langenhoven was chosen as part of the South African Presidential Team that swam in the Orange Cup in Rotterdam. She decided to pay forward some of the funds she managed to raise from selling some of her preowned swimming gear toward sponsoring a kennel and a Nexguard for a dog named Spartan in Ext 12.
And if that isn’t enough to tug at your heartstrings, this amazing young woman even put her swimming and personal life on hold at just 16 years old to care for her mother during months of chemotherapy and recovery after being diagnosed with Leukaemia. A truly selfless act of compassion that speaks volumes to how deep her love runs for those in her life.
Now, the athlete is back to thriving in the waters, achieving milestones like excelling in national swimming events and recently qualifying for the presidential team that participated in the Orange Cup held at the beginning of this month.
According to WOW Project’s founder, Kerry Kleinhans, the Langenhoven family have been devoted supporters of the organisation for years. As Erin and her sister Aimee got older, they started helping independently where they could.
“As a family, they’re avid supporters of WOW and what we stand for, which is being a voice for the animals in the impoverished communities of Wolwerivier and Ext 13 in Atlantis where we sterilise, give basic healthcare, feed and give shelter to the animals.
“Always encouraging the children to take responsibility for their pets, we believe that change lies with them. Erin, we’re all so grateful for the selfless gesture,” Kerry shared with Good Things Guy.
Erin is a hero for her family, and defenceless animals serve as a true inspiration. She’s a living beacon of hope who does not hesitate to care for others before considering her interests – and that’s something worthy of our stamp of appreciation and celebration!
The WOW Project currently has its 2025 calendar on sale, featuring beautiful photographs of 12 rescued dogs kept on its premises. All proceeds will go towards more sterilisation projects. Visit this Facebook link to learn more.
