Father of twin boys, Jeff Bekker, saved sons from drowning in car on flooded road in Brakpan and is now a Superdad to South African’s everywhere
Jeff Bekker and his wife Erika are the proud parents of two very cute twin boys. The twins are 8 months old and full of life. On the 13th of February the family experienced something terrifying and life changing!
On the way home after picking the twins up from daycare the family found their route home obstructed by high levels of water. The subway road was completely submerged with water and there was no safe way to pass through it as the water was higher than the roof of the car.
As Jeff realised that he would not be able to pass through, he started reversing the car to go back the way they came but the wheels slid on the mud in the road and the car started sliding into the water filled subway.
“It was raining profusely but I saw that I wouldn’t be able to drive through. I tried braking, but the car slid on the mud and sludge and we were pulled into the subway,”
The car slid into the massive body of water and immediately started filling with water. Jeff sprung into life saver mode and got himself and the twins out of the car.
“The water started seeping into the vehicle. My priority was just to get out so we could get the babies out.”
Jeff and the boys got to the roof of the car and Erika managed to free herself too. CAS towing where on the scene within minutes and lowered a winch cable into the subway for the family to grab a hold of. CAS towing also went above and beyond by rushing the family to a nearby hospital.
“They put their lives at risk to save us, we will forever be grateful,” – Jeff Bekker
