Gauteng’s new state-of-the-art Finetown clinic has finally opened! Now, more healthcare services are accessible, reducing pressure on public hospitals.
Finetown, South Africa (11 July, 2023) — It’s been a long wait for the community looking forward to the promised Finetown clinic, but the new state-of-the-art centre is finally here.
This is fantastic news for people in the area who travel to great lengths for medical care and services, as well as for other public health service providers who often care for more people than they’re equipped for.
The new state-of-the-art clinic opened a few days ago after experiencing a stop-start progression for a handful of years. Construction saw local residents create the clinic, making it all the more community-rooted.
Speaking to Daily Maverick, programme manager at civil society organisation Accountability Lab Funeka Manzi shared that the opening is a huge relief.
“They will no longer be denied their fundamental right to healthcare. We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the rights of the Finetown community are upheld and protected.”—Funeka Manzi.
This is one of the latest doses of good news for health services in South Africa. This year alone, open heart surgery took place at the Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital for the first time ever, in Soweto. Following, Steve Biko Paediatric Cardiology and Pulmonology Clinic saw the instalment of its new Dream Room set to transform the treatment experience of seriously ill children. And for the Western Cape, Groote Schuur got advanced high-tech cancer treatment machines in a first for the province.
Of Finetown’s new clinic, the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development shares that the clinic is part of the Department’s desire to hit the gas on finishing up outstanding construction projects—something Gautengers will welcome tangible action toward.
