The girl’s dormitory of the Holy Cross Children’s Home in Cape Town was gutted by fire… but the community have rallied to help.
Cape Town, South Africa (22 July 2020) – The second storey of the Holy Cross Children’s Home was gutted by a fire over the weekend which left the girls of the home without clothing, toiletries and bedding. Thankfully, everyone was evacuated and nobody injured.
The fire broke out shortly after 9am on Saturday the 18th of July. According to the house manager, while most girls were still sleeping. Firefighters from the Belhar fire station were first on the scene.
The girls have since been placed in temporary centres by the Department of Social Development until the damage at the home can be repaired.
While they are safe at new centres, many of their worldly possessions have been lost in the fire. KFM, Cape Town’s premier radio station recently hosted an awareness segment encouraging people to help by donating clothing, bedding and toiletries
