Firefighters work hard to save lives and save homes, often risking their own lives in the process. To honour them, this is how to help them out.

Some of our fire stations are inactive due to lack of resources, this puts greater pressure on the fire stations that are active, including the firefighters themselves.

It has been a very sad week for the firefighters of Johannesburg. Recently three incredible heroes lost their lives in the line of duty. This has not only left us broken-hearted but also asking what more can we do to help?

Well, it is simple, show some love by dropping off a few essential items that may seem small to you, but will mean the greatest to those men and women who battle raging flames to save lives.

These are some of the most useful items to donate to your local fire station.

  • Energy bars
  • Trail mix
  • Other energy-type snacks
  • Bandannas
  • Chapstick/lip balm
  • Hard candy
  • Bottled water
  • Energy Drinks
  • Saline Eye Drops

And in the end, if you want to do a little more, give them a call and see what else they might need. A simple act of kindness can make their tough day brighter.

Sometimes these heroes use their stations as drop off points to help families that have lost everything to fire. Recently the Lonehill Fire Station opened its doors to donations for a local informal settlement that burnt down, leaving families with nothing. They took in clothes, toiletries and other small items to help get the families back on their feet.
