FoodForward SA has been sending boxes of food to support the victims of the landspout, which resembles a tornado, that affected parts of Durban.
Durban, South Africa (06 July 2023) – FoodForward SA is South Africa’s largest food redistribution charity, and they have touched so many lives. They quickly answered the call to aid KZN flood victims who had been displaced and continued that support for seven months. Now they are back in KZN, this time supporting the tornado victims that have lost their homes.
The organisation aims to reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost-effectively securing quality food and making it available to those who need it. FoodForward SA relies on the support of some of South Africa’s largest grocery stores and food distribution centres.
A landspout, which resembles a tornado, has left the communities of Inanda, Phoenix and the surrounding areas north of Durban without homes. While efforts are underway to support them, much is being done on the ground to provide for basic needs, such as food.
“With the support from our partners, we are providing perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as fresh produce to our beneficiary organisations, Masisizane Service Centre and the South African Red Cross Society, who will use these to provide daily nutritious, hot meals to about 500 displaced residents seeking shelter in community halls.”
FoodForward SA is doing so much for South Africa, including working towards policy changes related to food waste. You can stay up to date with how they feed millions and plan to save food from ending up in landfill by following Facebook here.
