The Mustadafin Foundation has kicked off its winter care campaign to help impoverished communities weather the coming winter chill and rains.

Cape Town, South Africa (09 March 2023) – Autumn is upon us and while the weather still feels so good, the cold, rainy wet winters that lash the Cape are not far-off. The Mustadafin Foundation has started planning for when the cold arrives, by launching its food, clothing and blanket drive.

Many of us are doing our best to lap up the last bits of sunshine as we can feel the evening chills getting more prominent. For residents living in impoverished communities, the evening chill is an early warning to start preparing for the cold winter months ahead. The Mustadafin Foundation is already starting to proactively engage with communities to collect and distribute warm clothes, blankets, mattresses, vanity packs, food hampers and hot meals.

The Mustadafin Foundation works with communities to alleviate hunger, provide disaster relief support and distribute critical resources during winter. Last year, Mustadafin provided over 5000 beneficiaries with winter relief packages, helping them battle the harsh winter colds.

“In the Western Cape, with the recent rains, we are already experiencing floods within some of the communities in which we work,” shares Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, director at Mustadafin. “With winter approaching, rising cost of living and an increasing unemployment rate, more people are living below the poverty line. We are finding that more people in our communities cannot afford even the basics of a cup of soup, blankets, hot water and other essentials required to keep themselves warm,” adds Johnstone-Cassiem.

“In preparation for winter, we are starting our winter good donation drive now. With your help, we aim to improve the standard of living for people living in vulnerable communities.”
