french gymnast broken leg

The French gymnast who suffered a double broken leg in a horrific vault accident on Aug. 6, is already up and walking again just two days later.

French gymnast Samir Ait Said, 26, is determined to heal as fast he possibly can after breaking his leg during the qualifying rounds at the 2016 Olympics. Two days after the double break occurred, Samir was photographed at Rio’s Vitoria Barra Hospital not just recovering with a smile on his face — he was walking too!

Although Samir had to hang on to a walker (understandably so), he appeared to be in decent spirits as he made his way around the hospital with his leg in a cast. He even smirked at the cameras and held up his pointer fingers indicating he’s still No. 1 after such a horrifying incident!

Said praised his French team-mates, some of whom managed to qualify for event finals later this week despite being visibly rattled after watching Said leave the Rio Olympic Arena on a stretcher.

“They managed to get going after my fall, which must not have been easy. They were fighters, so lads I say to you, be strong, be good, I’m with you and I send you all big hugs and believe me – the Tokyo 2020 adventure is still a reality.”

Samir underwent surgery on the night of Aug. 6 to repair the tibia he fractured in his landing.

Clearly the procedure went well since he’s already taking steps again! While his Rio run is over, the European Chamion gymnast almost immediately assured fans that he’ll be training for the 2020 Tokyo Games as soon as he’s back on his feet — looks like that’s not too far-fetched!
