The love story of Kagiso and Jarrett is a modern tale that saw two people make a connection on a dating site, fall in love and bring their South African and American worlds together.

South Africa (23 August 2024) – Kagiso Legodi and Jarrett Tomey’s journey began on a dating app, Bumble, where they found common ground in their shared values and interests. Despite initial reservations, Kagiso was drawn to Jarrett’s kindness, consistency, and open-mindedness.

Their relationship blossomed quickly, transcending geographical boundaries as they navigated long-distance love and cultural differences.

“Days before meeting him I was so convinced that there was no one for me on that app and I considered deactivating. A few days later I stumbled upon his profile and I loved what was on his bio.

“I swiped right on his profile and I completely forgot about it but a day later he matched me back. When I started talking to him I was also talking to some people who were on Bumble but a day later I realised that it was so different with him,” Kagiso shared.

She said that Jarrett’s big heart, consistency, kindness and view on many things made quite the impression and she decided to stop talking to everyone else and focus on their connection.

The couple, who have captured many hearts on social media, never really had a proper first date, as Kagiso recalls her and Jarrett deciding to date a few weeks after talking. It was only a few months later that Jarrett flew down to Japan – where Kagiso now works and lives.

“From there we went to the convenience store because it was late and restaurants were closed. So our first date was at a convenience store and I paid for it because he didn’t have the Japanese money yet,” an amused Kagiso shared.

With Kagiso being from South Africa and Jarret from America, the pair’s love has brought together two different worlds and cultures, which has proven to work out just beautifully for them.

The two are very open-minded and very conscious of their backgrounds. Kagiso notes introducing the topic of lobola to Jarret as a personal worry for her when things got serious between the two of them.

“When we started talking about marriage and building a life together I decided to talk to him about lobola. I was stressed because I didn’t know how he would receive it. To my surprise, he knew about it and he said that it doesn’t matter because he would do anything to be with me.”

And anything he would do indeed! Preparing for their traditional marriage, Jarrett flew all the way from America to South Africa to do right by the love of his life, paying lobola and bringing their two families together.

Kagiso notes that Jarrett’s bold moves affirmed how serious he was about their relationship and future.

“From coming to Japan to meet me, how he talks to me and the connection we share, I knew he would come to SA. Even when he sent the letter to marry me to my parents, I wasn’t worried because I knew he was a man of integrity and a man who honours his words.”

Gushing about their beautiful marriage to each other, Kagiso said that she and Jarrett talk about everything and anything under the sun and even when they don’t agree, they still respect each other’s opinions.

“I love how kind he is because over the years I never thought that dating a kind man was important until I dated someone who was unkind. I love how Jarrett and I trust each other, the connection we share and how I can depend on him. I love how we can calm each other. When I’m triggered or sad just a minute into the conversation with him, I forget what is it that I even wanted to talk about.”

Their love story is a beautiful reminder that true love can flourish in the most unexpected places.
