Josh Rubin was sent out on an assignment into Manenberg, a gang-riddled community, to show the world how the gangs called a truce to save their communities.
Cape Town, South Africa (05 May 2020) – Josh Rubin has captured the softer side of gang members in the Cape Flats. He was sent out on assignment to meet the gang members of rival gangs in Manenberg, to see how they are coping during the lockdown.
The rivals have stopped fighting to help feed their community during this Covid-19 lockdown. In a community that is plagued by stray bullets, it is good to see these men and women saving lives rather than taking lives.
“This is something that has never happened before and it has been an unforgettable experience documenting this moment in time.” – Josh Rubin.
People have reached out to Josh, thanking him for bring hope and showcasing the important stories that many may overlook.
He interviewed members of the Americans who worked with rivals from Clever Kidz, something unheard of in the past.
The community, while struggling to survive the lockdown, has actually thrived thanks to the peace that has occurred. Many lives are changing every day. Hopefully, this is the change needed to really make a difference.
We hope the peace this lockdown has brought, is extended beyond the fight of this virus. Only time can tell! Take a look at Josh’s short film below; you can also find more on his Instagram here.
