Bella, the horse, was in a perilous situation, but thankfully, the local SPCA and community rallied to save her from drowning.
George, South Africa (11 July 2022) – The community in George, Western Cape, rallied to support the Garden Route SPCA in rescuing Bella, the horse. She was trapped in the George Dam, in a pretty sludgy bit of water.
The Garden Route SPCA is made up of two branches, one located in George and the other in Mossel Bay. They work throughout the Garden Route, covering large areas between them.
The George branch received a distress call about a horse stuck in a low-lying part of the George dam and struggling to get out. They called on the help of several people, and the group that showed up left them in awe. Together, they were able to rescue Bella, get her back onto sturdy land and make sure she was ok.
The SPCA team took to social media to thank the community for lending a helping hand.
“When crises comes, consolidate.
Tonight, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the George community.
WOW, we have no words. Everybody has been so supportive tonight, thank you to everyone who jumped in to help rescue gracious Bella girl from the sludge water dam.
What an absolute disasterious situation this was, we just wanted to get this poor girl to safety and get her warm and snug.
So we all jumped in, giving it our absolute best to rescue this poor girl, but it took lots and lots of perseverance and hard work, but we did it with the help of the George Municipality and many many amazing community members.
Tonight we have once again realized how amazing and supportive our community is, everybody who offered their time and expertise. THANK YOU!”
