The Gentleman’s Club in Centurion is connecting women with skilled men who offer their services or teach skills free of charge.
Centurion, South Africa – The Gentleman’s Club isn’t what you think; it is a collective of men who are looking out for women. The men would rather help than take advantage, for example, where one man might charge a fee to change a lightbulb, the men at the Centurion Gentleman’s Club will do it free of charge.
Their hope is to put an end to situations where women are taken advantage of and perhaps even teach them how to do it themselves.
We spoke to the founder, Francois van Dyk, about why he this club was started. He was inspired to do something proactive after talks of #AmINext, and #MenAreTrash flared up again. Instead of adding to the #NotAllMen hum, he took action.
“I started this project, to stand up when others won’t, to step up where some say “it’s not my Job”. To challenge every other man outside in this country to be the change to show women that men can be good”
The goal of the Gentleman’s Club is to volunteer time and knowledge to assist ladies with anything in and around the house or car. They also plan to step up a programmed for single moms and teach the boys valuable skills.
“We will also be assisting single mothers where to father either passed on or is not part of the childs life, to sit with with them show them how to fold a tie, give advice where we can teach them how to fix a car or cut the grass, to man up on behalf of those that can’t or wont”
The group is very new still, but the meaningful change it could make is heartwarming. You can find out more about offering skills or requesting assistance on the Facebook page here. There are already a few success stories on the page even though it has only been active a few days.
