Gift of the Givers launched their R2-million crowdfund last month to raise funds for medical staff in South Africa, they are so close to reaching their goal
South Africa (15 April 2020) – The Gift of The Givers issued a call to action for all South Africans last month. They committed to protecting and supporting the medical staff that are working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic in South Africa.
The hope is that by being united, we as a country can empower doctors, nurses and medical staff across South Africa. By contributing to Gift of the Givers crowdfund, they can help with the supplies and equipment needed for medical personnel to carry out the vital work they are doing.
Gift of the Givers launched a campaign on donations based crowdfunding platform, BackaBuddy. They hoped to raise R2-million towards the cause. To date, they have raised R1,771,947.58!
“The aim of the campaign is to support high risk medical professionals in the front line dealing with infected patients and the patients themselves both through protective equipment, ventilators and other essential supplies in the quest to preserve life.” Dr Imtiaz Sooliman – Founder of Gift of the Givers
Gift of the Givers partnered with Vula Mobile, a network of over 11 000 health professionals in South Africa. Vula Mobile was tasked to help identify the areas in need of support.
Some of the medical supplies that will be bought using the crowdfunded money are:
- Manual and automated Ventilation equipment
- Intubation equipment
- Safety equipment for medical staff
- Medical supplies
