Gift of the Givers has arrived in the Northern Cape after heavy rainfall and flash flooding affected nearly 6000 families in the province.

Northern Cape, South Africa (05 July 2023) – If you look to the Gift of the Givers, you need to look no further. This incredible organisation is once again on the ground in South Africa offering aid to those in need. This time, they are helping families in the Northern Cape affected by heavy rains and flooding.

According to reports by EWN, nearly 6000 families have been affected by the flooding, sadly there have been four confirmed deaths and one person is still missing. Efforts to support everyone are underway.

The Gift of the Givers serves humanity unconditionally; assisting all of creation, irrespective of race, religion, colour class, political affiliation or geographic location.

Yesterday, teams reached Eksteenfontein in the Richtersveld Municipality, Namaqualand. It has been seven days since the flooding there and Gift of the Givers was finally able to reach the town. Due to the flood damage, infrastructure leading to the town was damaged, making it difficult to reach until now.

“Due to torrential rain, the banks of the Buffelsrivier overflowed, causing severe damage to roads, bridges, infrastructure, and disrupting communication networks. Despite the challenges, the teams managed to travel a distance of 60km in three hours, recognizing the importance of delivering aid to the resilient and patient community.”

They were able to deliver aid to all the families affected by the flooding. However, this is just the beginning. The town is in need of greater support due to this disaster. Gift of the Givers is committed to helping wherever they can!

“Food parcels, hygiene packs, blankets, and bottled water were distributed to the community in need. The team have made progress by assisting 155 families and gaining entry into the region, there is still a long journey ahead as approximately 6,000 families urgently require assistance.”

If you are able to assist, you can find out how via Facebook here or via the Gift of the Givers website here.
