Gift of the Givers has opened an emergency Covid-19 facility in Lenasia to help take the burden off the Gauteng health system.
Lenasia, South Africa (06 July 2021) – The weight of the third wave is starting to be felt in Gauteng as hospitals struggle to treat everyone. To answer the desperate need, Gift of the Givers set up an emergency Covid-19 facility in Lenasia.
The facility is being run by Dr Fatimah Lambat with the help of Dr Manga and has been set up at the Nurul Islam Centre. The facility has been set up for the Lenasia community and they are donating what is needed to cover the running costs of the facility.

“The Nurul Islam Centre has been generously provided at no cost to use as a COVID Care Referral Centre. The centre will not be a walk-in facility and will have 24-hour security at the premises with strict #Covid19 measures in place.” – Gift of the Givers
They have set up 20 beds at the facility. Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals will be volunteering their time. The team hopes to raise funds to be able to pay additional medical professionals such as paramedics, physiotherapists and assistants.
The Lenasia community has donated coaches and lockers so patients can store their personal effects and those who are able can sit comfortably when their recovery allows it.
While the facility has been opened to support the community, people will still need referrals to be admitted.
“The centre is NOT a walk-in facility. Admission is open to ALL communities but only by referral from a medical practitioner. The aim is to assist critically ill patients first to save lives as best we can.”
