Today is Giving Tuesday, and things are looking hopeful for South Africa’s Footprints 4 Sam. Every donation they receive is set to be matched in dollars by a global non-profit platform!
South Africa (03 December 2024) — Today is Giving Tuesday—a time when people around the world reflect on their spending habits—especially after days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday—and exchange consumption for change-making. And this year, Footprints 4 Sam is inspiring South Africans to act!
Footprints 4 Sam is a charitable trust committed to making a meaningful difference in paediatric healthcare in South Africa. Its roots are in the concept that tragedy can beget hope.
Founders Melissa and Fred Platt lost their son Sam in 2016 at only 15 and a half months old. He had spent his entire young life in hospital. They decided to start Footprints 4 Sam as a way to help other children and families experiencing healthcare journeys that, like theirs, were far from perfect.
This Giving Tuesday, Footprints 4 Sam is putting South Africa on the map through GlobalGiving—a global non-profit platform connecting NGOs all over the world.
“Giving Tuesday is celebrated globally, it is a powerful reminder that the true spirit of the season lies in acts of generosity and in embracing our common humanity, especially at a time where the world itself feels a little heartbroken,” says Melissa.
“All donations made to Footprints 4 Sam on this special day will be matched in dollars, and will go towards the Trust’s six initiatives that support underprivileged children and their families living with a life-limiting illness, as well as the incredible health professionals that tirelessly care for them,” she explains.
