Gogo Nozuko found a puppy wandering down her street and took it in, when the puppy became sick, she took it to the local clinic and ended up reuniting a family with their missing pet.

Khayelitsha, South Africa (10 January 2023)The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, has shared a heartwarming story of how a gogo from Khayelitsha helped reunited a sickly puppy with her family.

Missy was taken from her home on the 1st of January 2023. Her mom Deidre de Villiers was distraught as Missy had only just joined the family. She is an Italian Greyhound puppy and already holds a massive space in her mom’s heart.

Deidre was determined to find Missy, even driving into the local township to hand out posters, after people claimed to have spotted her there. She offered a reward for her safe return but instead, received threatening calls from people being implicated in the theft. From the intel received, the people responsible for Missy being stolen had moved her around from place to place which is how she ended up in Khayelitsha, 19km away from home.

One can speculate here, but it is assumed that Missy was then either dumped in the township or got away from her captors and was rescued by Gogo Nozuko three days ago. Nozuko found Missy wandering the streets and took her in. She saw the puppy was sickly and decided to visit the Mdzananda Animal Clinic for help. Nozuko had formed a loving connection with Missy and wanted to make sure she was healthy.

The team at the clinic instantly recognised Missy from Deidre’s social media posts. They explained the situation to Nozuko who agreed that Missy should be reunited with her family.

“We recognised the dog from Facebook posts and immediately contacted the owner who rushed to the clinic and little ‘Missy’ and her mom, Deidre, were reunited!

This is just one of many stories of compassion and love from our community. We see this emotional attachment and care daily at Mzananda Animal Clinic.

Nozuko did not get to keep the little dog that had already crept into her heart, but perhaps one day she will be ready to love another little dog, and we will gladly release our dogs to someone who has so much compassion!!”

As Missy is only eight weeks old, she has unfortunately contracted Parvo through this ordeal and is being quarantined and treated. She will only be able to go home once she has been cleared. The family are relieved she has been rescued, but now they face a new, equally heartbreaking battle.

Deidre has promised to keep everyone updated on how Missy is doing during her treatment. If you have any words of comfort or strength, be sure to share them in the comment section.

Update: Sadly, Missy lost her battle with Parvo and crossed the rainbow bridge. Deidre says she was loved forever and a day.
