Good Samaritan Mpho Kungani is being praised for finding a handbag that had been stolen and reaching out to make sure it was returned to the rightful owner.
Johannesburg, South Africa (03 February 2021) – In times of trouble, look for the heroes! They are there; they will always be there. That is the case for a Woodlands Sanctuary employee that was mugged on her way to work.
The woman, whose identity is being kept private, was walking to work when a mugger attacked her with a knife. Unfortunately, she was injured in the process but thankfully is doing okay. Her bag was taken in the process, and she was left very shaken.
The woman had not imagined that a Good Samaritan would find her bag and work hard to make sure it was returned to her. She was attacked in Vlakfontein, and her bag recovered 10 km away in Lenasia.
The Good Samaritan, Mpho Kungani. Mpho found the handbag and opened it to see if there was anything to identify the owner. Inside the bag was a travel permit which had been made up during the stricter lockdowns. The permit had all the Woodside Sanctuary details, so Mpho called the GM Kristen Williams and explained that he had found the bag. Kristen was overjoyed by the news and arranged for the bag to be collected.
“Woodside Sanctuary arranged to meet with Mr. Kungani and to give him a small token of our appreciation for his amazing kindness and assistance. Angels truly do walk amongst us!”
Mpho restored the entire team’s faith in humanity. For a woman who does so much to support others, this event is both infuriating and heartwarming. Times are tough and people, especially the bad ones, are targeting others so stay alert and try to lend a helping hand wherever you can.
The Woodside Sanctuary provides full-time residential care to people with profound intellectual disabilities. You can find out more about them here.
