Stacey and Tashvir’s paths intertwined as children in Grade 4, separated by life’s journey, only to reunite and blossom into a beautiful romance.

Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal (13 August 2024) – Meeting as kids, parting ways as young adults and circling back to each other again – The love story of Stacey Govender and Tashvir Himwanth is like something out of a sweet romance novel.

Good Things Guy connected with these two love birds who first met each other as Grade 4 pupils in primary school and got engaged in the very same classroom at Clarendon Primary School years later!

It all started in Grade 4 class.

Stacey recalls a core memory from Grade 4 when she and her now hubby-to-be were cleverly paired together by their former teacher Mrs Crooks.

“Tash was a bit shy and I was a bit too talkative so we balanced each other out and worked hard. We got along well for the most part, we would chat about movies and shows we liked.

“When I was 9, I generally did not like boys, I didn’t like how they acted and I was initially not pleased to be sitting next to the smartest one in the grade,” confessed Stacey who admitted that she was also intimidated by Tashvir at times.

A Twitter reconnection.

As the tale would go, the pair parted ways after school but Stacey must have made quite the impression on Tashvir as he reached out to her on Twitter in 2018.

Stacey was taken aback by how expressive and talkative Tashvir had become and was surprised that she was talking to the same person she knew from primary school.

“He was so comfortable talking to me and vice versa. We had an almost immediate connection, not in a romantic sense yet, but we soon became best friends.”

The two talked every day and soon felt a mutual connection that grew into something more special although they were in different stages in their lives.

A long-distance love.

At the time, Stacey was studying at the University of Free State while Tashvir stayed in Pietermaritzburg studying at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

“We reconnected in February of 2018 and maintained a long-distance relationship from July 2018 until January 2022. It was really tough, especially because Covid-19 happened during that time, but neither of us even thought about ending the relationship because we both knew that we were endgame.

“My dad would drive me down during the semester breaks to spend time with him and we maintained a very stable relationship that grew stronger,” Stacey shared.

Tashvir decided to end the long-distance relationship when they finished school and moved to Bloemfontein in 2022. While their love blossomed they also continued to support each other’s career goals.

After this year, Tash will be qualified as a Chartered accountant and Stacey has been admitted as an Attorney.

“We could not have achieved this goal if it weren’t for our constant support for each other.”

Tashvir pops the big question where it all began.

Reflecting on the memorable proposal which fell on their 6th anniversary, Stacey shared that she was under the impression that her family and Tashvirs were going on a fishing trip on the South Coast.

However, a sneaky and very romantic Tashvir had a well-thought-out plan to trick Stacey into going to their old primary school where his mother is the acting deputy principal.

Both families were in on the secret and after getting an unsuspecting Stacey to the place they first met, Tashvir popped the big question!

“Tashvir led me to our old grade 4 classroom and when he opened the door I was shaking with shock and excitement. There were fairy lights and it was the most perfect way to propose and it’s a story I will treasure forever.”

Asked what she loves most about her relationship with Tashvir, Stacey shared:

“I definitely love our unique story of how we met and found each other again. I feel truly blessed and favoured when I think about it. It is an amazing love story that we can share with our children and grandchildren in the future.”
