World-renowned Cape artist Mak1One joined students at Reddam House to create a piece of Graffiti art to raise awareness for ocean life and plastic pollution
Each year, the grade 7 class of Reddam House Constantia does a wall mural guided by graffiti artist Mak1One. The students involved take art as an academic class and this is their final project of the year.
“The latest Graffiti wall creation at Reddam House Prep. Each year the Grade 7 students who do Art as an academic option are guided through the creation of a graffiti mural by the world-renowned Cape artist Mak1One.”
The hot topic of the season is preserving ocean life by reducing plastic in the ocean. Each student was given the chance to paint a fish to the background of the graffiti artwork. Then Mak1One painted a beautiful stingray over the background and created an underwater masterpiece.
“This year the topical focus was the oceans threatened by plastic. The students learnt graffiti techniques and each one added a fish to create the background before Mak1One made the wall come to life with this beautiful Stingray. Made me think of you!”
2 years ago Kathleen O’Connor Thompson, who works at the Reddam House, approached Mak1One to assist with a community graffiti project in the neighbouring community of Westlake. It is a poor community hugely affected by all number of social problems. A women’s group WOW women of Westlake had the idea to paint the walls with uplifting Graffiti to beautify their environment to mark Mandela Day, MakOne1 arrived and brought a few of his fellow artists along.
His work is popular and he often takes part in charitable works. Take a look at the Reddam graffiti work below.
