The sweetest video of an oupa’s arrival at a graduation ceremony at the North-West University, carrying a cheerful bunch of congratulatory balloons, is melting hearts across the internet!

North-West, South Africa (08 April 2025) – Having a strong and loving support system is one of the greatest hacks for navigating this crazy ride we call life—and we don’t talk about it enough!

Well, this heartwarming story is all about that, and we’re holding back tears after witnessing the support of a grandfather who was captured on video while arriving at a recently held graduation ceremony at the North-West University (NWU).

The video shows the grandfather walking with a walking stick in one hand and a bunch of floating balloons adorned with graduation congratulatory messages in the other. He’s also seen carrying a Woolies shopper bag as he steadily makes his way to the graduation venue.

“There’s nothing like seeing your biggest cheerleaders show up for you, especially when they’re your grandparents. Our hearts are melting,” the post caption reads.

It’s a small gesture that holds so much significance! It’s a sentiment many of us share: the heartwarming value of having loved ones witness our significant life events and joyous occasions.

For a senior to invest such care and effort in making what we believe to be their grandchild or child’s graduation day even more memorable – by being there and bringing a sweet surprise – powerfully demonstrates the depth of his pride and support.

We think it’s safe to say that he was not going to miss this for anything!

The video of the precious moment has garnered over 50k views since being posted yesterday and an overflow of loving and endearing comments from South Africans who were touched by the grandfather’s bold display of love and support for his graduate!
