Haircut day is back at the One SMALL Act of Kindness feeding programme; giving the men waiting for warm meals the dignity of looking well-groomed and tidy.

Johannesburg, South Africa (29 September 2023) – This week One SMALL Act of Kindness (OSAOK) hosted a haircut day after several of the men they feed, asked if they could be cleaned up a bit. The organisation reached out to the community for help purchasing a few clippers and the first was used to offer trims to 17 of the men this week.

The team originally had two sets of clippers but sadly they had broken. As the weather is changing, many of the men who rely on warm cooked meals from OSAOK, asked if they could get a haircut. With so many men in agreement that this would be a lovely treat, the team knew they needed a few new clippers.

“Our feeding schemes are going strong, but one request we are receiving a lot of is a grooming day.

The guys have mentioned they would really like hair cuts again.”

They took to their Facebook page, asking for help to purchase at least four cordless clippers. Within a matter of a day, funding for the clippers arrived. They were able to plan a haircut day!

“We have some smart looking guys on the street. They are feeling a bit more confident today.

Tomorrow, we have more guys eagerly awaiting haircuts as we couldn’t get through everyone today.

Dignity in care means providing care that supports the self-respect of the person, recognising their capacities and ambitions, and does nothing to undermine it.

Thank you to those who assisted us in making this possible.”
