Hamba Bamba Funda is hosting a helpful day for 67 moms and 67 babies in need this Mandela Day. From Jars of Hope to Educational Sessions, here’s how they’re planning to make a difference:

Soweto, South Africa (17 June 2024) – With Nelson Mandela Day on the horizon, community champions and charities alike are all gearing up to make the most of the generosity Madiba’s Day inspires. Hamba Bamba Funda is thrilled to announce another edition of their Mandela Day celebrations after last year’s success, and everyone is invited to help make the day as impactful as possible.

This year, Hamba Bamba Funda has a new theme for the event, “Nutrition Nurtures”.

Teaming up with other organisations, including the Flower Foundation and the City of Johannesburg, Meadowlands Welfare Centre in Zone 9, Soweto will take centre stage as a place to support 67 moms and 67 babies in need.

“This year, we plan to empower mothers by sharing knowledge about the importance of good and healthy nutrition for them and their babies,” shares the organisation.

Here’s What’s On Their Line Up for the Big Day

Educational Sessions: These will be facilitated by guest speakers who aim to help mothers understand the importance of good nutrition in the early stages of their little ones’ lives

Clothing Parcels: The team will be distributing clothing parcels for both moms and their tots

Jars of Hope: The aim is to pack the famously helpful Jars of Hope for families with enough nutrients to make food for a family of four when filled with water and cooked.

Vegetable Parcels: The team also hope to hand out veggie parcels and are looking for the following:

  • 1 cabbage
  • 6 onions
  • 1 bunch of carrots
  • 6 potatoes
  • 2 butternuts
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 4 oranges
  • 4 apples

How to Get Involved

  • Help pack parcels (clothing and veggies)
  • Help out with supplying the veggies
  • Volunteer on the day and spread joy

Help From Sponsors

The Hamba Bumba Funda team are also on the lookout for a water sponsorship (around 150 bottles) and a ground cover measuring 15×20 so that no one has to sit on the cold floor for the practical sessions.
