Patrick Lees the St. John’s Prep Headmaster goes above and beyond every year to inspire his students with his Awards Night speech, this year was the best!

Johannesburg, South Africa – Headmaster Patrick Lees faced his fear of heights all to inspire the students at St. John’s Prep. He wanted to show the students that no matter what, they could overcome anything they set their minds too.

Patrick makes a point each year to give a speech that will really inspire the young men. He gives the speech at the annual prize-giving and has done something outrageous each time, for the last ten years!

“Patrick Lees, Prep Headmaster, has been finding exciting ways to deliver his message to the boys at the annual prize-giving for the last ten years. He always promises the boys that he will grab their attention and not keep them a minute longer than necessary at this event at the end of a busy day and long year.

He has kept his promise over the years with dazzling speeches about “Being your own superhero” before surprising his audience with a quick change into a Superman outfit, and spoken about responsibility and the good feeling that comes with being responsible, followed by a flash mob of staff performing Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t stop this feeling”.”

As can be expected, the boys highly anticipate his speeches and this year; they were blown away by his dedication to inspire them.

“This year’s message did not disappoint as Patrick told the boys that they should not let their fears define them or stop them from becoming whatever we want to be as he took his first skydive.

“There are endless possibilities once we step outside our fear,” said Mr Lees. He had the boys jumping up and down in their seats with excitement as they cheered out loud.”

Below is the video footage of his skydiving, it is evident that he was absolutely terrified, but he pushed forward and inspired the young men beyond his imagination.

This speech will be one they never forget! Headmaster Lees went on to challenge three teachers at the school to do the same.
