The “Upper Highway Community Page” rallied behind an inspiring woman, cheering her on to finish the Comrades and then supporting her after pushing the limit.

Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal – Michelle Webber took to her local community Facebook group to ask them to support her domestic worker, Cecelia, who was running the Comrades Marathon.

According to Michelle, Cecelia has a love for running, so much so, she runs everywhere including to and from work. She avoids taking taxis so she can get as much running time in as possible.

The Hillcrest group “Upper Highway Community Page” all rallied behind Cecelia, finding her along the route and cheering her on. They also followed her journey via the app. Everyone was so excited for Cecelia to complete.

Sadly, many started to notice that her time status wasn’t being updated and she was last counted at about 100 metres from the finish line.

Michelle later posted an update about Cecelia, who was sadly unable to finish the race due to injury.

“I want to thank you all so very much for all your support to Cecelia today!

Unfortunately, I have just heard that Cecelia is at St Ann’s hospital and will stay for the night. She dropped out herself as I am guessing she could not go further. Cecelia is someone who would have walked the rest of the way if she could.

When I find out exactly what happened, I will send an update.

My heart is broken for her as she worked so hard and she was so close! Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all again so much! I will definitely show Cecelia how many people were routing for her. She will be so happy! Xxx”

The community then said they would send their prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery. Hopefully next year, Cecelia will have an even bigger crowd cheering her on towards the finish line.
