Pretoria Home Affairs gave a helping hand to the staff at the Phyllis Robertson Home by sending their mobile unit to give residents a chance to apply for smart IDs.
South Africa (12 June 2023) – When you think of Home Affairs, you don’t feel joy or excitement. Nobody likes having to stand in long lines just to do some life admin. The team from Phyllis Robertson Home needed to help several residents get their ID cards but planning the trip to the Home Affairs was a daunting task! Thankfully, when Home Affairs realised they were going to struggle, they sent their mobile unit to the home to help all the residents.
The home manager started the process of planning the trip to the Pretoria Home Affairs office to help several residents get their Smart ID cards. It started with trying to arrange a special queue for the wheelchairs. In reaching out to the office, they started to understand the vast task this trip would take.
Instead, the Home Affairs team offered to visit the Phyllis Robertson Home using their mobile unit. The unit has everything the Pretoria office would have, with the addition of a motorised ramp designed to get wheelchairs into the mobile unit.
All the residents needing smart IDs were hoisted up, a total blast according to the home team. As you can see from the image shared above, many really enjoyed the ride!
“Joyride – Now this is service! From Home affairs! After a great many trips to the Pretoria office to obtain smart ID cards for our residents, special queues pre-arranged, they took pity on us (Mathapelo is an excellent organiser) and today they came to us! Wow!! We are very impressed and exceedingly grateful for this special consideration. Thank you!”
Having the Home Affairs team lend a helping hand so the home residents could complete their ID applications was a huge help. We loved seeing how willing they were to offer an easier alternative for the home. Now each of the residents will be able to have new ID cards!
