This is what happens when you're not racist to a homeless person in South African.

A couple were sitting in a restaurant during a storm when they saw a homeless man sitting outside in the rain… what happened next will restore your faith in South Africans.

Benoni, South Africa – A new story has emerged in the wake of the recent “racist exposed” incident, where a South African man decided to video himself while belittling a homeless man but the new story is a beautiful reminder that we are not all tarred with the same brush and most of us are genuinely good humans.

Riëtte Meets shared her story on Facebook after visiting her local roadhouse on the 24 January 2018 on Great North Road in Benoni. She felt that it was important to remind the country that even though the video of a man humiliating a homeless guy had been trending in the media, we all need to remember that we are united, not by race, but as South Africans.

“I would really like to share my wonderful experience we had last night at the Burger Box Casbah.”

Meets and her husband usually go there for take-aways but there was a massive storm brewing, so the couple decided to rather eat in the restaurant section.

The couple had only been seated in the comfort of the restaurant for a short while when they saw a white homeless man sitting outside, in the pouring rain.

“I told my husband I’m going to stand up and tell the waiter to please give him something to eat. We will pay for it, but before I could get up a black waiter walked outside to the homeless man and asked him to please come into the restaurant and out of the rain.”

The kind waiter offered him a seat, something to dry himself with and brought him a hamburger and cool drink. Meets recalled how humbling it was to see the waiter treating the homeless man with so much respect!

As he sat there and waited for his food, he took out a journal and wrote something in it. And then we sat watching, with tears in our eyes, as he enjoyed the meal that was given to him.

Meets posted the story with a reminder that kindness knows no race, and the couple were both thankful to have seen the beautiful South African moment.

“With all the racist posts in the media, we really enjoyed eating there last night! This made our hearts so happy and is proof that we all are human no matter what race!

Being kind to someone is NOT about race or skin colour, it’s just simply about being South African!”
