17-Year-old Max, who is partially blind and deaf, has been hailed a hero and made an honorary police dog for helping protect his 3-year-old human who was missing for 15-hours.
Aurora Kyle, a 3-year-old from Queensland Australia, was reported missing late in the afternoon of April 20. A search commenced after her grandmother, Leisa Bennett, notified authorities that the little girl was missing.
While the search picked up and people got involved, Aurora and her dog Max were walking around the rugged bushland of Queensland’s Southern Downs. The pair were lost in an environment, considered unsafe for a child Aurora’s age. While Max is partially deaf and blind, he remained committed to protecting his beloved human.
Max and Aurora were missing for a total of 15-hours before they were found. The search team could hear a faint sound coming from Aurora but couldn’t find her. Max came to the rescue and led rescuers to where Aurora was on the mountaintop. The pair were only 2 km’s from the house and still on the family’s property but the distance was much greater than anyone could have expected them to travel.
The Queensland Police Services took to Facebook to share the happy news that Aurora was found as well as to honour Max for his dedication.
“Such a good dog, Max! He stayed with his 3-year-old human who was lost near Warwick last night while we frantically searched for her. For keeping her safe, you’re now an honorary police dog.”
Max is a hero and his new honorary title is well deserved. The loyalty of pets always warms our hearts.
